So as my 2010 “resolution”, I decided I would finally get my ass in gear and start ‘doing’ things with my life. Although, I’m sure it has more to do with the fact that I’ll be turning 30 this year rather than the date. Here it is nearing the end of January though and I have to ask myself if I’m really making any progress.
Take for example this site. I decided I was finally going to redo my site; finally set up a full portfolio for my artwork and design, start a blog… Well, I managed to install WordPress and install a gallery… and that’s about it. I haven’t even designed the site. I haven’t uploaded anything. I haven’t even written a blog yet.
So here’s to doing something. I’m writing a blog. About time, yes? Although, in all reality, I have still been working on designs, just not my own. I fear the idea of web design still daunts me. I can design logos and things for print in a heartbeat but when it comes to CSS and Java and Flash and figuring out how to incorporate a blog into my design and a working, well designed portfolio…. *sigh* I just want to crawl back under the covers and call it a day.
But, this is also why another part of my ‘resolution’ is to finally go back to school. Go learn all the little things about design work that I didn’t manage to figure out on my own. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to whip out websites in a couple days with a bit of tutelage instead of staring at an empty site week after week. Make that two empty sites week after week. I also promised my best friend (several times over the past couple years actually) that I would redesign his site (www.atls911pc.com). The original design I sort of threw together so that he would have something, but as he is in business for himself, he really needs something to help draw in more potential clients, and I have repeatedly put off doing it.
For the past week or so though, I have been working on a new design for him and doing a TON of research, both for his site and for mine, on all those things I listed above that made me want to go back to bed. So hopefully in the near future I’ll have at least one of our sites completed, if not both. A step in the right direction at least.

w00h00! First comment! Congrats on the new site!
Peace,
JT
I like the stuff you do that got dat urban flava. I think it’s a niche of yours.
Progress comes a little at a time – just never forget your original intent.
